Cheeseboxes 2010-2011

I can’t seem to walk by seed pods, stones, moss-covered bark, etc. without stockpiling them. A few years ago, we had the 18-year cicada onslaught in this region which inspired this series of Cheeseboxes. I wanted to keep that moment of their song and their abundance with me. The small frames of the boxes enclose a narrative around my finds. The works are comments about juxtaposition of textures, some are comments about death, some are deeply emotive collections. All the objects are cast-offs, including the frame. They are things with no further use, obsolete and disconnected elements in our very connected world.
