Niddah 2012
Graphite on Mylar
Each drawing 24" x 18"
The graphite drawings (The Women) reflect how women feel in society during their periods. The ghostlike images roughly flesh out each woman’s shape, yet denies the details which create her personality. They are defined by their absence, unafraid and proud, yet their isolation is undeniable. Armless and eyeless, they are somewhat female and totally disempowered simultaneously.
In creating a set of beautiful visuals for a life event that holds universal understanding, I hope to open the topic of Niddah as a conduit for esthetic artistic expression.
