Niddah 2012

The Scourge

Poured latex molds

Each drawing 16" 4" x 4"

The seven latex figures represent the Talmudic scholars’ references to the woman’s vagina: the Grave, Teeth, The Other World, Her Lower Face, That Place and their fear that menstruants’ Breath and Stare could kill. The latex creates an opaque surface which filters light through it, the figures are hollow. Harmless and whimsical these figures belie the fears that they represent.

In creating a set of beautiful visuals for a life event that holds universal understanding, I hope to open the topic of Niddah as a conduit for esthetic artistic expression.
